The length of search phrases continues to grow. Back when the Internet was just an upstart, single keywords were the only thing you needed. Remember, it takes 20 years to build a reputation and only five minutes to ruin it. Structured data, sometimes referred to as schema markup, are codes which are added to websites to provide search engines with in-depth information about your products, your business offering, prices of your products, location-based offerings and much more. Keywords and link building are no longer as impactful as they once were; now, it’s all about creating valuable content. Google and other search engines are switching gears to focus on the relevance of the information you provide on your site. The “bots” that determine your site’s search engine ranking are crawling the web in search of sites that are conversational and have valuable content. (Not to creep you out, but Google’s system is critiquing your site like an extremely intelligent superhuman would.)

To do SEO the right way, it takes time to test and learn all the various techniques involved in getting a website ranking.

One part of SEO many have heard of is keyword research. After all, every time we use a search engine, we’re using a keyword (the name is a misnomer, most keywords have more than one word in them!) Honestly, I wouldn’t suggest moving so quickly that you risk some type of penalty. Particularly with backlinking, if your ‘velocity’ or the time passing and frequency of links procured rises too fast – it will look fishy and unnatural. Link Exchange is another good way for building links. However, you need to be careful with this one. I am not asking to go around ‘asking people for links’. Just move subtly with it. Long-form content is a magnet for long tail searches. The more searchers and visitors you attract, the more you can ‘satisfy’ and the better chance you can rank higher in the long run.

Focus on what you do best

Every search engine was built with a different system with unique preferences and features, making each of them beneficial in their own way. But they all have two major functions: they index content and turn over relevant results when a search is processed. Search engine do not give you links that are counted to your link popularity. You need to write content that others want to link to. And in my opinion, if you are not passionate about what you are writing, then it will be hard to get links pointing to your content. When writing an article or some content for your web page, remember- ‘spices add flavour to a dish and make it more appealing to our senses. In the same way, keywords are like spices to our content. Keyword density is good but, to create rich content, there should be variety in the keywords used. If you don’t know who your competition is, search for some of your most important keyword targets – sites that consistently rank well are the ones to take a look at.

Search engines will read whatever you put in your title tag

When you or your SEO Company creates links – make them hefty and serious. They should actually be almost a pain to get, whether through outreach, guest posting, or by deliberating with someone in your network to include a link back to your site. These things, when worth something for real will either take… money, time, or effort. If they don’t, they aren’t worth it. The reputation, authority, and credibility of a website will be judged by the search engines based on the type of backlinks the site has. Make it as easy as possible for users to go from general content to the more specific content they want on your site. Add navigation pages when it makes sense and effectively work these into your internal link structure. We asked an SEO Specialist, Gaz Hall, for his thoughts on the matter: "Brand mentions and co-citations are also very important to Google, in determining the quality and usefulness of a particular web page."

Humanizing your website is the way to search engine bots’ hearts

It is better to have your links spread out amongst a lot of domains with targeted, but diverse anchor text then it is to have a ton of backlinks from one domain. The more comprehensive and targeted your backlink profile is, the higher you will rank. If you aren't talking about your best content, why should anyone else care? For this reason, it's important that your best SEO content be linked to internally by other pages on your website. Yes, this means you may need to go back and edit some older posts to include links to the new, incredible content. If your website or webpage suddenly or gradually changes focus over time (say from a carpentry guide to a best practice SEO guide – sounds unlikely, but you never know), then anchor text pointing to you will likely change in line with the different topic. Google may then decide that your page has changed so much that the old anchor text is no longer fresh and devalue those older links. SEOs have a weird way to describe this voting process; they call it “link juice.” If an authoritative site, we’ll say Wikipedia for example, links to you, they’re passing you “link juice.”
